The population of GBLT people age 50 and beyond has grown exponentially on Long Island over the last several years. After conducting focus groups with more than 100 Long Island GLBT seniors, a growing call came from the community to have a home where GLBT seniors can access supportive services, create rich social networks and share their legacy. Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders- Long Island (SAGE-LI) became that place.
In 2007, after several years of planning, SAGE - Long Island was launched. SAGE-LI is part of a unique and efficient new model of service delivery,The Long Island GLBT Services Network (The Network). The Network is an association of three organizations that serve the GLBT community throughout the lifespan-LIGALY, serving youth 13-21; The Long Island GLBT Community Center (The Center), serving adults and families; and Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders – Long Island (SAGE-LI) serving GLBT seniors age 50 and beyond.
